Therapy recommendations are based on your child’s individual needs. Most children attend therapy once or twice per week, but the therapist will discuss the best plan after the evaluation. We strive to accommodate each family’s scheduling needs while maintaining the consistency of a recurring weekly appointment at the same day and time whenever possible.
We will do our best to accommodate scheduling changes based on availability. Please reach out to our scheduling team or your therapist if your needs change.
Most therapy sessions are 30 to 45 minutes, depending on your child’s treatment plan and goals.
In many cases, yes. We will do our best to coordinate sibling appointments when scheduling allows.
After the evaluation, our goal is to begin therapy as quickly as possible. Therapy can typically start once recommendations, scheduling, and any required insurance authorizations are completed. If insurance authorization is required, our team will work diligently to obtain approval and move the process forward as quickly as possible. When no authorization is needed and scheduling is available, therapy may begin as early as the following week.
Availability varies by location, time of day, and therapy type. While we wish we could accommodate every family immediately and at their preferred appointment time, availability is sometimes limited. If an immediate opening is not available or our current appointment times do not meet your needs, we can place your child on our waitlist and contact you as soon as a suitable appointment becomes available.
Yes! Caregivers are always welcome to observe therapy sessions. While our clinics do not have two-way mirrors or observation windows, you are welcome to join your child’s session in the treatment room. We believe parent involvement is one of the most important parts of successful therapy because it helps you learn strategies you can use at home. Whether you stay for the entire session or join your therapist for the last few minutes, you’ll always be an active part of your child’s care.
You’re always welcome to stay, but the best choice depends on your child. Some children do better with a parent nearby, while others are more engaged during one-on-one time with their therapist. Together, you’ll decide what best supports your child’s success. If you choose to wait in the lobby, your therapist will invite you back to the therapy room to review the session and answer any questions before you leave.
Yes. At the end of each session, your therapist will provide practical activities and strategies to support your child’s goals at home. We focus on simple ideas that fit naturally into your family’s daily routines.
You play the most important role in your child’s progress. Using the strategies your therapist recommends during everyday routines like meals, playtime, bath time, and bedtime helps children learn and practice new skills in meaningful ways. Small, consistent moments at home make a big difference.
You’ll receive a verbal update at most sessions, including your child’s progress, accomplishments, and recommendations for home. Formal, written re-evaluations are completed every 6-12 months depending on your insurance’s requirements.
Open communication is a priority. In addition to verbal updates at most sessions, caregivers can contact their therapist by email or through the secure Ocean Friends patient portal with questions between visits. We believe therapy is most successful when families and therapists work together as a team.
Every child is different, so there is no set timeline for therapy. The length of treatment depends on your child’s needs, goals, attendance, and opportunities to practice at home. We regularly monitor progress and adjust the treatment plan to help your child reach their goals and graduate from therapy as soon as they’re ready.
Your therapist monitors progress during every session by tracking your child’s skills, independence, and response to treatment. We also complete formal re-evaluations every 6 to 12 months, depending on your insurance’s requirements, to measure progress, update goals, and ensure therapy continues to meet your child’s needs.
Every treatment plan is individualized. Therapy goals are based on your child’s evaluation results, developmental needs, and your family’s priorities. As your child makes progress, goals are updated to reflect new skills and changing needs.
Progress isn’t always linear, and it’s normal for children to experience periods of slower growth. If progress slows, we’ll work with your family to identify possible barriers, adjust therapy strategies, and modify goals to help your child continue moving forward. If we believe your child would benefit from a break in therapy or a different treatment approach, we’ll discuss those recommendations with you and make decisions together.
Yes. Therapy goals are designed to grow with your child. As skills improve, new goals are introduced, existing goals are adjusted, and treatment priorities are updated to reflect your child’s progress and your family’s needs.
