I’m Chelsey Garrett, M.S., CCC-SLP and joined Monkey Mouths in May 2019.  I graduated from Abilene Christian University where I earned my undergraduate and master’s degrees.  Prior to joining Monkey Mouths, I worked in pediatric hospital and home health settings.

I believe therapy should be dynamic and fun! Kids learn best through play and when you can engage multiple senses (sight, smell, sound, touch, taste, and/or movement) they are more likely to learn and remember what was taught. My previous experiences have taught me that when kids are having fun, they want to come to therapy and they forget they are working hard. Rather than having tears at the beginning, the tears appear at the end because they don’t want to leave. This, in my opinion is the best compliment to receive from my young clients!  A mentor of mine once told me “everyone has a sign around their neck that says ‘Make me feel important’.” This is an ideal I try to implement daily because each child and family is walking a unique journey. Building a foundation of positive rapport and making each person feel that they are receiving individualized attention is how effective therapy begins. Additionally, a child’s success very rarely can be achieved solely during the limited amount of time in direct therapy. The parent/caregiver plays a significant role in the long lasting success to maintain functional communication and feeding abilities taught in therapy. I love working closely with parents to empower them to carryover therapeutic strategies to the home environment. In my opinion, sharing in the parent's wonder and excitement when these strategies are a success in the home is priceless!  In my spare time my hobbies include reading, running, shopping and cooking.
