Lindsey Hockel, M.S., CCC-SLP

Provider Type: Speech-Language Pathologist

Location: Hurst

I’m Lindsey Hockel, M.S., CCC-SLP and I joined Monkey Mouths in 2016.  I hold a B.S. in Psychology from TCU and a Masters in Communication Disorders from UT Dallas. I’ve also been nominated as a "Mom-Approved Therapist" by DFW Child Magazine.

I enjoy treating a variety of speech sound disorders and I use a range of techniques to help children with articulation disorders, phonological disorders, and apraxia of speech achieve improved intelligibility and communication.  I have a firm belief that everyone deserves a voice and I love working on language with all children, whether they are verbal or non-verbal. I find joy in helping my patients understand the world around them as well as communicate their wants, needs, feelings, and ideas. I also regularly teach both PRC (LAMP Words for Life) and AssistiveWare (ProLoQuo2Go) communication systems.

I am also a feeding therapist, combining my knowledge of sensory, oral-motor, behavioral, and medical factors to effectively treat children who have restricted diets or who cannot safely consume a healthy variety of foods.  I am a big believer in reducing mealtime stress as quickly as possible.

My therapy style is fun and energetic, and I’m a big believer in the power of play. There is no single therapy approach that works for every patient, however, so I adapt my style to the individual child. Some sessions are extremely structured, and others follow the child's lead. One aspect of my therapy style is consistent, however- family involvement. I have seen time and time again that a child's family is instrumental to their progress. In fact, one of my favorite parts of being a Speech Language Pathologist is connecting with families.

Over the years I have enjoyed working closely with late talkers, picky eaters, children who stutter, children with Down syndrome, children on the Autism spectrum, as well as children with a variety of speech and language disorders. No matter the diagnosis - progress can be made and I am happy to guide families and children step-by-step to success through an individualized approach. I’m a big believer in "progress, not perfection" and have seen firsthand that effective communication is power - with it comes increased self-esteem and improved quality of life for the whole family.

In my spare time, I enjoy traveling, attending comedy shows, and spending time with my friends and family. My husband, Eric and I also spend a lot of time keeping the peace between our grumpy cat, LuLu and energetic puppy, Kaiser.
