Cathrine McKenzie, MOT/OTR, CPRCS
Provider Type: Occupational Therapist
I’m Cathrine McKenzie, MOT/OTR, CPRCS, and I joined Monkey Mouths in 2023. I earned my undergraduate degree from the University of Houston, and my master's degree from Texas Woman's University-Houston. My prior experience includes pediatric hospital, home health, private practice, and school settings.
I believe that the best way to create an environment of success in gaining new skills is to have a sense of humor, have fun, play and include the family in goal setting and helping the patient with the home program. I never grow tired of seeing the smiles and the look of pure joy when a child independently performs a skill they have not been able to accomplish in the past.
In my spare time, I enjoy traveling (especially taking "sister trips"), playing with and taking care of my two spoiled dogs, needlepointing, cooking/baking, as well as reading English, Irish, and Scottish mysteries. As an OT since 1992,I have training and specialization in the following:
- Handwriting without Tears
- NDT Techniques
- Perceptual Function of the Hand
- Sensory Processing Disorders
- A Brain-Based Approach to Lining Motor Development and Sensory Integration
- Differentiating Sensory from Behavior
- Evidence-Based Strategies for Infant Positioning and Handling
- Effective Early Intervention
- Practical and Complimentary Intervention for Autism, Asperger's, Sensory, and ADHD
- SIPT Certified
- Calirobics (Pencil/Paper Exercises Set to Music)
- Certification in Primitive Reflex Clinical Specialty
- Pediatric Myofascial Release Techniques
- Oral Motor Therapy-Beckman Protocol
